Grief and Discipline in the Church
We lack any real process or practice for grief in our culture. And I would argue if you look at some of the stories that have come from soldiers who returned from Iraq and Afghanistan, you see this as we don't know how to deal with it. There's a kind of unfinished business even with the finished business, so to speak, of acting in a loving way. That requires its own mode of love presence to the other person precisely in the disciplines that are undergoing just as you were in the grief that they experience because of the experiences they've had.
