Why So Many Subsidised Units Are Not Being Transferred?
There's often a sale requirement within 5 or 10 years. You're restricted from selling it within a certain amount of time. But you're not forced to sell it. That's the whole thing. Nobody's selling them. For one, that seems really harsh and also, yeah, it doesn't square with the fact that so few of these homes are being traded in any given year. So effectively, they're giving people a big one time subsidy, but just the kind of subsidy that keeps them trapped in the same unit for a long time.
