Pierre Cure was struck and killed by a horse drawn carriage in Paris. His widow, Eve became the first female professor at the Sorbonne University. She laid the foundation of a laboratory in his name where others would be able to develop their own ideas. The university offered her pierre's position but she turned it down with a heavy heart.
