Is It a Dark World or a Real World?

Hoyd corrects chelon's light weaving. He says, in those days, there was no light. And so i in hoyd's version, it's not just that the village is in shadow, in the shadow of the wall,. But it's actually dark, like pitch black night time. This makes way more sense for the story. I am wondering if it is also h d changing something to set up the eventual potency of the story.
