Herbert Marques: Utopian possibilities he writes are inherent in the technical and technological forces of advanced capitalism and socialism. He says rational utilization of these forces on a global scale would terminate poverty and scarcity within a very foreseeable future. But we now know that neither their rational use nor, this is decisive, their collective control by the immediate producers, the workers, would by itself eliminate domination and exploitation. So what he's saying is we learn the lessons of Stalin. We can't just have a workers party. This isn't going to work. The everyday person is reproducing a terrible world no matter how much he likes it," she said.
