The Race of the Officer Does Matter for Internal Sanctions

The research I've done overwhelmingly shows that regardless of the officers race or gender that the outcome becomes the same. And our white officers and black officers are materially different in that when you, when you, and I want to hear more about the virtual reality tests that you do. When it comes to who might be held accountable internally for that, black officers are more likely to be sanctioned within law enforcement than white officers. So we have to recognize the dynamics that are in play. It doesn't make it right. But as a researcher and a person who studies social policy related to policing, my job is to understand and help unpack some of the key dynamics and lead to the outcomes we see.
