The History of Slavery
In 1790 Pennsylvania adopts a gradual emancipation bill. The cotton gin was invented and that helped lead to the cotton boom in the American South with a man for slavery is greater than ever before. In New York, by some estimates about one third of the people who were enslaved in New York were actually sold south before they would have been emancipated. It wasn't just how outrageously unjust slavery was for black people that made Jefferson opposed to slavery. He also feared that it would lead to all sorts of terrible consequences.
