When the Russian Revolution took place in 1917, it was a empire-wide, revolutionary struggle of the people and led by the people on the periphery. And so these very, very longstanding debates about what a socialist society would look like became central to how social democrats looked at nationhood. So when Sovietization happened, when the 11th Red Army led by Orjanikizze and Stalin Juleshvili entered and overthrew the Menshevik Social Democrats, this was sort of an extension of those tensions.
