Shug Knight and Dr. Drakehead's Deal With Death Row Records
Shug Knight and Dr. Drakehead wanted to sign Tupac to Death Row records while he was rotting away in prison. Shug got 1.5 million from a friend of his who was in prison on drug charges and so couldn't do shit with his money. In return for a 50% shareholding in the record label, Death Row was born. Snoop Dogg was one of the first to come on board. The gangland life was never that far away though. Both bloods and crypts were regulars at the death row offices. So much so that the LAPD had multiple complaints from neighbors of gang activity at the record labels building.
