What Amazing About Really Deep Thoughts?
There's the strong contrast going on in this song between the verses and the choruses, not just musically, but also thematically. For all their abstraction, hit's never quite clear who you and i are. The second verse has to reassert the verses more grounded reality after the choruss flight of phantasy.
Tori Amos was one of the most distinctive songwriters of the 90s, and remains a powerful musical voice decades later. "Silent All These Years," one of many strong singles off of her 1992 solo debut, is a perfect encapsulation of so many of the things that make her music special.
