The Impact of China's Export Controls on the Semiconductor Industry
The Chinese approach to this and many other sectors over the last decade plus certainly has been to leverage rather than exclude if you like market instruments. The so-called big fund for the IC industry was set up in 2014 which has directed hundreds of billions of renminbi towards various companies across the very complex semiconductor supply chain. Many commentators would suggest that the fact that the big funds executives have disappeared into the Communist Party's disappointing investigation system over the last year is a good sign that the authorities do not think they are making the right decisions.
