I feel like i have to choose. I don't think you actually need to chose. You can take care of yourself and the empire can. There's no such thing as long term happiness. The very idea is false. This is like pot of the gold at the end of the rainbow. And if they just keep grinding and keep grinding, thing are going to get better.
