Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom
Before the war, lawrence set out to write a scholarly book about seven great cities of the middle east. He abandoned the project, but kept the title: Seven pillars of wisdom. The thing that really attracted me to it was these sort of philosophical and theological meditations on topics as diverse as the theological significance of the desert or the birth of monotheism. And that's what sot of really drew me into this text.
