For everyday neuroscience I think it's perfectly fine to talk about neurons and neural activity as though it really exists and has causal power so I do that. But when we try to understand the hard problem of consciousness how is brain activity related to our conscious experiences like the taste of chocolate that's when the fiction is no longer harmless It actually has prevented us from solving that hard problem of Consciousness.
