How to Make a Good Hook at the End of a Chapter
Brandon Sanderson: What I talk about with my students is thinking about it like an opera. When you do three intermissions that are half an hour long, your audience is completely fine with that because they've been sitting for a long time and getting up and stretching and having cocktails is really great. But if I'm doing a short play, a one act, and it's 45 minutes long and I have a half hour intermission, no one is going to come back after the intermission. They will, but you're going to lose some of them. This has been Running Excuses. You're out of excuses. Now go right.
