And so as I mentioned, these numbers are on the high end for deaths due to whooping cough,. But it was still a really bad problem in other places as well. So this trend in increasing virulence was repeated across a wide geographic range - which is kind of interesting because we have this idea that diseases tend to decrease in virulence over time.
