Benadryl and the AlphaGal Syndrome
The standard teaching among gastroenterologists is that allergies don't really cause IBS or particular GI symptoms without the other symptoms. We have this variability throughout the world of food allergy. Some patients are bothered by fume-based reactions, so they can't even smell it. If you take Benadryl, you still have anaphylaxis, but you won't itch. That would be enough for some people. It's not clear to us that shiggers proper can actually do this.
