The Manualist Revival

There was a very small number, but they were the really disturbing ones. They were all within this manualist revival, this revival of Baroque Thomism. And they didn't want the sort of special distinction of having gotten into that community to be spoiled by discovering that the gates weren't real. I realized that somehow in the history of Christianity, that tiny sociopathic faction somehow got the rhetorical high ground on this. In a secret sense, that small group are also the ones who've safeguarded the Orthodoxy of hell from time immemorial. So you've got, you know, the whole Christian world sort of held hostage by the worst of us.
