Anansi is sometimes said to be the son of the sky god and all creator, Niyame. Other tricksters in mythology include Loki, Coyote, Brere Rabbit, and Maui. A trickster is not necessarily a god or a hero, but is like both. They can play both the villain and the champion in a story. In some stories, Anansi appears as a human. In other stories, he is a spider. Sometimes he's both. And it will become clear why there are so many stories about him specifically.
