The Role of Blood Pressure in Cardiovascular Disease

A causal risk factor indicates that independent of other factors, this particular risk factor or biomarker is specific to the initiation and progression of a disease. It's not just giving us general but very useful information, and it's not a biomarker of damage already done by the processes that we're describing. Blood pressure is also a well-established causal risk factor because hypertension exhibits a strong linear strength of association with cardiovascular and coronary heart disease and stroke. But again, we'll discuss the evidence in due course.
