A latent is just a lower dimensionality of an image. You compress it because we don't have like infinite GPU compute or time. And so you believe that like, okay, well, I'm not encoding everything about the image. So I might lose some information. But it's not different than like encoding and compression. It's still super high dimensional space. The essence of what you're going for is still sort of there.
