Whales and the End of Industrial Whaling

Whales are complex creatures. They pass down a lot of the information necessary for their lives through cultural transmission, that is, they learn it fromth other whales around them. It's not imbedded genetically. We still see the impacts even as whale numbers are rebounding here in the 20 first century. Whale mothers, for example, seem to be far less adaptto keeping their calves alive than they were before whailing. That kind of knowledge reverberated, loss reverberates to day of sperm.
