The Impact of Pemex on Mexico's Economy

Pemex was enormously influential in the development of Mexico from the late 1930s when it was founded. Today oil represents a relatively small percentage of Mexican exports. It's not that big a deal on the hard currency or foreign exchange side, but continues to be an important source of revenue for the government. The problem with Pemex is that although there was an energy reform in 2014 that allowed foreign investment in oil in Mexico, this has been de facto overturned by the Lopez Obrador Administration.
