Drupal Core 2 - Drupal 8 vs PHP 7?

As long as it's a recent supported version, that's what makes everything happy. There were some some new things inPH 8 that you couldn't do in PHP 7. A lot of simple syntax things make things easier for people writing the same block of code over and over and over again. Drupal has continued to adopt those things.
