Thomas Hardy's Poetry

In Our Time

CHAPTER

Is There Much Experimentation?

There is quite a lot about hardy that could be called experimental. His use of words is lexican, which is all the reviewes noted included what on one reviewer calls seeing all the words in the dictonary on one plane. So he mixes old and new words. A coinages like wistlessness, dialect jagged syntactic edges. Heis also quite sereal sometimes in his imagery. One of my favourite images is that of the moon described drifting dolphin's eye seen through a lapping wave.
