The History of Magic in the Middle Ages

Magic has an ambivalent reputation throughout antiquity. Good magic might be pursued by bishops and monks, friars and later university professors. Bad magic was generally the sort of thing that you accused marginalized people of. Next week we will present part two of a secret history of secret history looking at the range of esoteric movements which arose in the Renaissance and early modern periods.
