Nosperato is another example of german expressionist horror from this era. The style is, in fact, much closer to romanticism than expressionism. There are expressionist details that come in and out but for the most part you're plunged head first into nature. A clarly german romantic painter, casper david friedrish, has been picked out as a particular influence on mernow.
