The American Dream Sets Us Up for Internal Self-Reflection
The American dream is where the idea that the good life is available for everyone if they work hard enough in a country of vast wealth disparity. The American dream sets us up for internal self-criticism, similar to the times in childhood when our parents neglect us even though we are frightened or scared or overwhelmed. So as I'm saying the toxicity of our culture with its vast wealth disparity coalesces into a inner critic that mirrors the sink or swim cognitions of our culture. We can see this so much in place because in so much of the counseling when I meet with people and they're talking about the concerns that they criticize themselves about that their inner critic focuses in on.
