In 1478, Leonardo describes a man called Fioravente de Domenico as his most cherished companion. He gets in legal trouble when he and three other men are alleged to have sex with Yakupo Salter-Relli. On balance, we think that Leonardo was probably what we now call gay or bisexual - even if those were not the terms that were current at the time.
