As life in the tiny landlocked country grew more difficult a large chunk of the white population fled the country mostly for South Africa. The USSR in China wound up backing separate guerrilla armies and the two fought each other sometimes but they put enough pressure on the embattled white minority that things began to get very dire for the Rhodesian government.
