Menopausal Transition Testing

The diagnosis of the menopausal transition is actually based on what we might call clinical horse sense. It is adequate to consider the person's age and menstrual irregularity. We do not recommend measuring follicle stimulating hormone concentrations in women who are in their forties, because those serum FSH concentrations vary during the menstrual cycle.
