The Polar Bear Necklace
Helena Thiesen was born in the Greenlandic town of Nuke in 1944. She recalls being scared by a polar bear when she was five years old. Her father, who had tuberculosis, died aged six and her siblings were told to kiss him goodbye before he was taken away on a stretcher. "I got a shock because he was so icy cold," says Helena about his death.
