A third state of happiness would be not wanting to have something but being happy with things as they are. This is a deep contentment a deep feeling an inner feeling of happiness, rather than dependent on outer rewards or outer aspirations. These different states follow each other we put out the theory already in 2011 that you would find them doing different phases in lifeDifferent stages in life more pronounced than in others meaning the wanting to have the growing the thrill and ecstasy part being particularly prone and happening in the young. The midlife crisis where happiness is more just surviving and then the deep contentment where happiness would be more a trait than a fluctuating state.
