The Paradigm of Leadership
We have to kind of look at our paradigm and challenge it, challenge the assumptions behind it. I think scarcity might be good economic theory, but scarcity is lousy leadership theory. So if I buy that belief, my job as a leader is to elevate caring above competing. You know, yes, let's compete in the marketplace, but let's care and collaborate in the workplace.

Stephen M. R. Covey is an American writer and public speaker and the author of the books: The SPEED of Trust, Smart Trust, and Trust & Inspire: How Truly Great Leaders Unleash the Greatness in Others. He is the co-founder and CEO of a company called CoveyLink Worldwide and former President and CEO of Covey Leadership Center. He happens to be the son of Stephen Covey, the author of the pathbreaking book - 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
In our conversation, we spoke about how Stephen broke away from his father’s shadows and created an identity for himself over time as a thought leader by building credibility on the business front. We spoke at length about his recent book - Trust and Inspire. I loved his distinction around being Trust and Inspire in Paradigm but Command and Control in the moment. He also speaks about “Enlightened Command and Control” which gives people a false sense of having evolved their leadership style. Highly relevant piece of work in this world of complexity and possibility.
