The Experience of the Beautiful
When you see something beautiful, you should be arrested by it. And I also think that there is something, and I don't know how to hesitate to say it's politically good or important. The vast majority of the experiences and perceptions we have are presented to us in the broadest possible sense. We get lots of moral imperatives shoved in our faces; neither of these things are art. There should be a domain of experience that we cultivate and celebrate as a society that is centered around neither of those experiences.
