Symbolism in the Visual Arts
The artist recollects an emotional experince, has an insight into the human experience and finds some kind of symbolic representation. A word is not the same thing as a feeling, but it can stand in for a feeling. The greek word from thm is simbola, which is literally their kind of sed together. It's li it's not a representation of certain behaviours that might make you feel a certain way. Music, aristotle argues, doesn't have that filter, that symbolic pilter. So it has this kind of more direct power.
