Dillan: Monumentalists are the focus on the connuity of greatness for all the ages. We look to past great deeds and great human beings as models, as teachers,. Their sources of comfort because they help us avoid resignation. The imperative at work here is to perpetuate greatness. That's what monumental history is for; we must try to emulate these great figures of the past. It can really do harm in the hands of men of power. There's a nice quota in 71 about this, monumental history deceives by analogies with seductive similarities. It inspires the courageous to foolhardiness, and the inspired to fanaticism.
