The Patriots have never really had to deal with it because Brady always took less and now they're on the cusp of having to face it with Matt Jones, who's kind of mid-mid. What gets teams in trouble is not paying a quarterback $40 million. The cap pushouts that come back to haunt you are worse than paying a quarterback. And I just feel like it's a cop out and excuse, sometimes advanced not only by media, but by teams themselves.
