Astronomers Arno Pindius and Robert Wilson were looking for radio waves from the Milky Way in 1964. The longer they used their antenna, the less progress they made. A theoretical cosmologist at Princeton just instantly knew exactly what they had detected. This is really the turning point in cosmology, where you could see the Big Bang rise to prominence.
