Is Heidegger a Historical Materialist?
A historical Heidegger is trying to fill in the concept of historicity with actual history. And there is no history in Heidegger. There's like the history of being, which comes to us through etymology and different aspects of language and stuff. So that's not history. Gil, you tweeted something about it. I think you said something like a confusion about what materialism is. But more Heidegger just seems to me that he was deeply formed by the Heidegger of it all. For one reason or another, he saw the limitations, but he was trying to rescue some critical tools and bring them intohistorical materials framework.
