Progressive Overload Is the Fundamental Rule of Training

A lot of times people get caught up with this relentless pursuit of progressive overload. You can't press dumbbells, 25 pound dumbbells forever and think that you're going to get a bigger chest, bigger shoulders, bigger triceps. That's just not how anything else physically works. Plan your warm-up based on how you feel the next day. If you're feeling great it might be double or triple what normally is for you. Otherwise within the first few years everyone on the planet could bench press a thousand pounds in one workout. It's never a zigzag straight line. We try to power through these plateaus which are just natural.
