The consensus around red mercury from the kooks and the non-kooks is that somebody is lying. By that standard, at least, Mazur Mahmud, the fake chic, was no kook. He admitted under oath that news of the world had hired a number of convicted criminals to work on the sting. In 2006, he tried to get an MP named George Galloway,. who currently leads the Workers' Party of Britain, to make anti-Semitic comments on tape. When he attempted to circulate photos of Mahmud to other members of Parliament, news of the World took him to court to quash them.
