One theory is that we developed language in the first place to swap gossip. And how gossip works is, you know, bu by use of moral outrage. We hear a story about somebody behaving selfishly and we experience moral outrage. But with journalism, the no, of course it wasn't perfect. There was still status to be earned in telling the full story.
