The Importance of Deciding to Dance
Writer Marla Hooch decided to force herself to do all sorts of things alone. She dressed in a fashion she privately termed circa 1980 Harlequin-Romance-Harrowin pre-makeover. This involved an enormous pair of glasses, an occasional chain to suspend it from her neck and a wardrobe vaguely reminiscent of Jane Fondes in 9-5. The point was not to meet anyone. I shunned company. It was some combination of self-improvement and self-punishment.
