Even a relatively poor chess program now is way better than the best human. But there are still better programs than worse programs. So the same thing can happen here. Now you have additional factors in sports because one of the teams may well be simply more physically talented than another team. True. And then the question becomes, can a difference in the quality of the coaches, whether they're AIs or not, overcome the difference in the physical qualities of the team? I don't know. There will be better AIs and worse AIs. How big those differences are isn't known yet.
