The Importance of Choice Architecture in Retirement

When used subtly, nudges are very effective. Some incorporate humor without causing the person to get irked and choose their option just to spite you. If we go back to our HR example where you're working on your form to get more people to opt into the retirement plan, you could have your choices include something like yes, I care about my future self and will contribute 15%. Or you could have the no option say no, I don't care about myfuture self and so I don't want to contribute. There are a bunch of options you have. But again, remember, it needs to be very easy for someone to make the choice that's best for them.
