The Stoics believe that we should have a preference for oneof external outcome over another. It's rational to prefer healthy outcomes, but we shouldn't get upset when these things don't go our own way. We should invest a or more importance on the intentions, because that's what's directly under our control. And particularly the stoics believed our value judgments, making strong positive or negative value judgments, obot external events, was the main thing that caused distress.
