Do Not Swear an Oath

John MacArthur argues that Jesus himself made an oath statement when he was stood before the Sanhedrin and they said, are you the son of God? But I would challenge what MacArthur is saying because that is not an oath. In fact, he does not say, I swear before God and you that yes, I am who you say that. He just puts it back on them. That is very different than an oath being made and expected to be kept. And I think that this is the, this is one of those things where we have to be okay with the discomfort of what Jesus is challenging us on. The human heart is an idol factory.
