Paul Graham, the founder of Y Combinator, met Steve and Alexis Ohanian at a cafe-al-jears in Harvard Square. They pitched him their mobile menu idea that he said would revolutionize phone lines. He invited them back to his office for an interview; they were rejected but kept going on drinking. The two men are now working with Google's Larry Page as part of its self-described "moonshot" team.

With $12,000 and a mascot named Snoo, two former college roommates designed a web site they hoped would become "the front page of the Internet."
