The Role of Serendipity in Insights

There's been a lot of talk about, we're seeing this in our own lives right now with companies like Amazon and Netflix that have algorithms or programs that allow smart discovery where you find things that are related to your interest already. Are those sort of algorithms going to get in the way of insights? I think so. The problem is that it locks us into what the original programmers knew and what their beliefs were and what their dimensions were. And without somebody watching what's happening, the programs can mislead us if we're not careful.
